Free Hairdo Anyone?

I can often be found wandering the aisles of Boots and rarely leave empty handed, but I recently left with more than I bargained for: a new 'do.

I'd been after the Bumble and Bumble Surf Travel Set for a while but it was (and is currently) sold out online, so I picked it up and popped it in my basket.

Bumble and Bumble is a new addition to the Sheffield branch of Boots so I had a quick chat with their Hair Advisor, Laura, to find out more about the brand and its products. With some time to spare before meeting a friend, I jumped at the chance to have my hair styled and sat myself down to let her work her magic.

Laura was lovely and I was left with a gorgeous plaited twisted style - something I'd never be able to achieve myself. I got lots of compliments whilst sipping mojitos later that night.

When I received an invitation to a swanky event a few weeks later (a film premier no less) I booked an appointment with Laura. In exchange for buying another product - this time the Thickening Dryspun Finish as a Christmas gift - she transformed me into a 1950s Hollywood glamourpuss.

I mean, what's not to love about pink victory rolls?

This is a fantastic service, available nationwide I believe, and one which I'd highly recommend. Whether you've got a special night out on the cards, or if you just fancy trying a Bumble and Bumble product, it works out much better value than going to a salon. For around £20 you get a new 'do and the pleasure of using their quality products at home too.

Sparkly Chic (And How Not To Buy Gifts)

L-R: Nicole By OPI Kardashian Color Disco Dolls, Pirouette My Whistle, Number One Nemsis
What with the festive season being the perfect time to sport a bit of sparkle, I recently ordered some OPI nail varnishes as gifts from online discount store, The Cosmetic House

Upon receiving them in the post, I lasted all of three minutes before bagsying them for myself. They are AMAZING. Sparkly, but expensive looking sparkly. Easy to apply, even with my rubbish skills and just two coats disguised my ridged, flaky talons. I immediately ordered two more colours - the questions is, will Warm and Fozzie, a gorgeous rusty brown and Rainbow in the SKylie, a chunky multi-coloured glitter top-coat, make it into the stockings they are intended for? Willpower Mojtio, willpower.

Number One Nemesis and Pirouette My Whistle
This picture doesn't do Number One Nemesis justice. An almost impossible to describe silvery-goldy-mossy-neutral - I love it. My ring finger has one coat of Pirouette My Whistle on top for an extra dose of silvery sparkle.

Disco Dolls

Disco Dolls from the Kardashian range is a gorgeous warm gold. If glitter can ever be chic, this subtly sparkly number is it. Four days in, it remains chip-free.

Normally retailing at around the £8 to £10 mark, I picked these shades up for between £4.99 and £5.99 from The Cosmetic House. The colour examples on the site aren't great (just a shot of the bottle) but a quick Google image search brings up lots of real life examples. Oh, and sign up to their mailing list for one-off deals and discount codes - I received an extra 15% off this order as a result.

The First Post

My name is not in fact Dave. My name is Miss Mojito and I'm a beauty obsessive.

After much procrastination, and some gentle nagging persuasion from friends and family, The Beauty Scriptures has been born.

It is my view that there is no woman in the land who will not look better with a little bit of well applied slap. With a sweep of eyeliner or a slick of lipstick we can enhance and transform, giving ourselves a great big confidence boost in the process. But beauty is about so much more than the physical, and conventional views of what it is to be beautiful are there to be challenged.

So, expect reviews of the latest products, inspiration from my style heroines, and discussion about women and beauty in the media. I'll be imparting some of the knowledge I've acquired over the years too. If anyone is out there reading this, feel free to say hello...
